With plenty of room inside and a clean, attractive design, the 2006 Chevrolet Impala should build upon its history as one of GM’s best selling vehicles. The 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS is a family-sized sport sedan equipped with a sport-tuned suspension and performance tires, standard OnStar telematics, side-curtain airbags and a 303-horsepower V8 engine that cuts operation of half the cylinders during cruising speeds to save fuel.

Front View

The Chevrolet Impala has been a mainstay in the General Motors stable and is GM’s best selling car in the U.S. The 2006 Chevrolet Impala, with its combination of good looks, a roomy interior, and standard side-curtain airbags should appeal to buyers wanting a stylish family car.

Rear View

In stock form the 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS comes equipped with a 5.3-liter V8, four-speed automatic transmission, performance-tuned suspension, dual stainless-steel exhaust tips, and an exclusive rear spoiler. Additional standard fitments include 18-inch machine-face aluminum wheels, techno-metallic interior trim, and cloth bucket seats.

Cockpit

Optional interior features for the 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS include a six-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 capability, an eight-speaker Bose sound system with XM satellite radio, and heated leather seating surfaces with power six-way front passenger’s seat adjustment. Also available are a power sunroof, woodgrain interior trim and a universal garage door opener.

Front Seats

Front bucket seating with optional leather upholstery adorn the cabin of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS. The sedan comes well equipped with multiple features such as ABS, traction control, side-curtain airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

Rear Seat

With available seating for six, the 2006 Chevrolet Impala is the perfect choice for a large family. Buyers of the SS model will need to limit the kid-count to just three because front bucket-style seats are standard. The 18.6 cubic-feet of trunk space can accommodate plenty of luggage for family vacations or weekly visits to the grocery store. And for additional storage, the 2006 Chevrolet Impala offers flip-and-fold rear seats for greater cargo capacity.

Engine

A 5.3-liter, all-aluminum, small-block V8 producing 303 horsepower and 323 lb.-ft. of torque powers the 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS. The new engine features Displacement On Demand (DOD), helping to reduce fuel consumption under certain driving conditions. When the on-board computer signals the engine that less power is necessary to maintain speed, the engine reduces the number of cylinders engaged in the combustion process, effectively allowing it to operate on four rather than eight cylinders. The engine returns to eight-cylinder mode when it is determined more power is needed.

Suspension

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS gets firmer suspension settings than the standard model. These upgrades include stiffened spring rates, 34-mm front and 19.4-mm rear hollow stabilizer bars, and 18-inch machined-face aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear P235/50 performance tires.

Transmission

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala comes equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. A strengthened version is used in the Impala SS, to handle the 5.3 liter V8’s additional torque.

Badge

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS is easily distinguished by its lower stance, larger wheels and SS badge on the back of the deck lid.

fallback

Safety

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala comes standard with dual-stage, passenger-sensing front airbags and side-curtain airbags for both rows of seats. However, seat-mounted front side-impact airbags and a stability control system are conspicuous by their absence.
