Three Affordable and Fuel Efficient Crossover SUVs
When shopping for a vehicle that will have multiple uses, a crossover SUV may be just what you need. And if those multiple uses include duties like hauling the entire family on the weekends and serving as a commuter vehicle to and from work on a daily basis, a fuel efficient crossover would be the best money saver. Check out the these three affordable and fuel efficient crossovers for 2010 for your next all-around car. The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, the 2010 Honda CR-V and the 2010 Hyundai Tucson are three great choices when it comes to combining family friendly and fuel efficiency.
2010 Chevrolet Equinox
The first crossover is the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The two-wheel drive 2LT Equinox starts at just over $26,000. Adding the top-of-the-line LTZ package can bring total costs to around $35,000. The front wheel drive crossover gets 22 miles to the gallon city and 32 miles per gallon highway, making it a great fit for both families and commuters while being easy on the wallet. The tight suspension and long wheelbase of the 2010 Equinox makes for a smooth, comfortable ride. The handling of the Equinox doesn't test as well as the Honda CR-V. While the longer wheelbase makes for a smoother ride, it doesn't do much for the cornering. The interior of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is complete with plenty of room for both tall drivers and backseat passengers.
2010 Honda CR-V
The 2010 Honda CR-V is another good all-around choice for being family friendly and fuel efficient. The 2010 Honda CR-V EX two-wheel drive starts at a little over $24,000. With 21 miles per gallon city and 28 miles per gallon highway, the gas mileage for the Honda CR-V is decent, but is the lowest of the top three choices in small crossovers. Of the three, the CR-V handles the road the best, but the cabin can be noisy at times. Front and rear seat occupants may find themselves looking for more space and more comfort when it comes to the seats. Wide-opening rear doors allow plenty of space for rear passengers to climb in and a large cargo area can hold more than the other two crossovers on this list. There is also a shelf that holds up to 20lbs of cargo.
2010 Hyundai Tucson
The 2010 Hyundai Tucson is redesigned and has a much more striking and sporty look than the competition. The 2010 Hyundai Tucson GLS two-wheel drive starts at around $22,000. Lower priced models can be had, but will come with a manual transmission. Between the three small crossovers here, the Hyundai Tucson has the most dramatic looks when it comes to the exterior. This small crossover gets a very impressive 23 miles per gallon city and 31 miles per gallon highway with the automatic transmission. As far as driving, the interior can be a bit noisy and the handling is not up to par with the other two crossovers. The interior of the Hyundai Tucson puts high grade materials and a simple layout to good use. Tall passengers will enjoy the front seat but the rear seat leaves much to be desired - like adjustable seats. The backseat is fixed in the Tucson, though the Equinox and CR-V both have backseats that slide and recline. The cargo area is smaller than both other competitors, though the rear seat does lay down almost flat with the cargo floor.
