Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2015 Chevy Trax compact crossover, which debuted earlier this month at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, will be among the first Bowtie Brand products to offer 4G LTE connectivity service from GM's OnStar division. The service will provide a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that allows Trax passengers to connect up to seven different digital devices to the Internet at once, as well as deliver significantly faster connection speeds for the wide range of available tech features from Chevrolet.

That includes, for example, the next-gen MyLink system that will be available in the 2015 Chevy Trax and serve up the segment's first, and so far only, seven-inch color touchscreen. The Trax also will show off a first-in-class integration with Siri Eyes Free technology, as well as the ability to download the BringGo app for an affordable in-dash navigation resource. Also notable from the tech department, albeit not having anything to do with connectivity, will be a standard rearview camera system for the 2015 Chevy Trax.

“Demand for a vehicle with huge capability in a small footprint is on the rise, and the Trax is a perfect fit that offers the latest technology and a bold design with versatility to match," according to Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president for Global Chevrolet, who further reminded customers that, "The Trax truly rounds out Chevrolet’s already very-strong small car portfolio."

In fact, through the first quarter of the year, all three of those small cars—the 2014 Chevy Sonic, Chevy Spark and Chevy Cruze—are enjoying positive sales gains, with Cruze and Sonic seeing double-digit gains during that time and Spark sales spiking by almost 9 percent. The trio has plenty of momentum, too, as shown by the following March sales numbers:

  • Cruze—26,521 sales, up 14 percent
  • Sonic—10,060 sales, up 45.6 percent
  • Spark—5,117 sales, up 44.6 percent

The 2015 Chevy Trax looks like it’s well positioned to see the same kind of success, too, with Autobytel's own Benjamin Hunting calling it "a wagon substitute that doesn’t exact an efficiency penalty” and reporting that “there’s just enough room inside this crossover to keep it useful for a healthy range of potential buyers."
