If you love the movie Transformers more than anyone else you know, and you want to provide the world with proof of your passion for giant robots disguised as automobiles, then the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe is for you. This unique version of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro is designed to mimic the looks of the Bumblebee character in the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which debuts this week.

The 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe offers a range of both flagrant and subtle styling cues that associate it with the Autobot in the Transformers franchise which has enjoyed more “face time” in front of the camera than any other. Like its Bumblebee namesake, the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro comes in yellow only and features a unique black striping kit on the hood, roof and trunk as well as 20-inch black painted wheels that bring together the “flying insect” color scheme.

A closer inspection of the Transformers Special Edition Camaro reveals details like the Autobot logo at the center of each of the wheels, and matching logos on each front fender. The Autobot symbol is additionally scattered about the interior of the Bumblebee Camaro, as it is etched into the lid of the coupe’s center console and embroidered on each of the front headrests. Black leather that wraps around much of the Camaro’s passenger compartment is standard, and Chevrolet also includes yellow stitching that adds a dash of color to the motif. The Special Edition comes standard with a rear spoiler, but those who want to go “full Bumblebee” can also order a special aerodynamic body kit that adorns the lower half of the car with black ground effects, as well as a larger set of 21-inch wheels (finished in black, of course) that more closely mimic the design of the on-screen automobile.

Not just any model of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro can be spec’d out with the Transformers Special Edition package – the option is only available to 2LT and 2SS Camaro Coupe trims. The 2LT comes with the Camaro’s 3.7-liter, 312 horsepower V-6 engine and a long list of luxury and comfort features, while the 2SS combines those high end items with a 6.2-liter, 426 horsepower V-8 engine. Each engine can be matched with either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet used the initial Transformers film in 2007 as a coming out party of sorts for the Chevrolet Camaro re-launch, giving the world a long look at the concept car that would eventually make it to the showrooms largely unchanged. In the past, movie tie-in cars such as the Toyota Tundra T3 edition, which was associated with the film Terminator 3, have not been met with much enthusiasm by new car buyers. The sheer weight of the Transformers franchise in terms of its pop culture penetration – combined with the fact that the cars are the true “stars” of the film series – suggests that the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe will have better luck connecting with Bumblebee fanatics across the United States. This is especially likely given that the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe “transformation” package is available as a $3,000 option, which is a fairly affordable price to pay in order to drive the same car as one of your Hollywood heroes.
