Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The power, and the look
Cons: the price, have to sacrifice a knee cap to own one.
Advice: be prepared for the sticker price to be rock bottom price no negotiation, maybe later on there will be some rebates or incentive programsI was really impressed with the 'giddy-up' on this little vehicle. The first dealership we dealt with was rude and they kept us there 2 hrs trying to tell us we had to come up with $6,500 down to take it home. Needless to say we left. The next dealership 'Knoxville Mazda' treated us great but after already having shopped 2 hrs previously for one we were thru playing games. The tribute has a great look and feel, very sporty, and economical enough to still be the 'family car.' I recommend a test drive at least I think the 0-60 in 8 seconds is a little off though I think I made it in 6 flat ha ha!!!
Pros: Comfortable ride and the heated seats
Cons: Haven't found it yet
Advice: Buy the LS with the V8 loadedI have test driven Mercedies, Acura, Lexus, Audi, and BMWs all in the same or close to the LS V8 class. I now own a LS Super Sport V8 with the NY style package, Nuff said I guess
Pros: The third seat in the rear
Cons: The placement of the power lock switch in the rear. Its hidden.
Advice: Buy it with the V8 engine. You get more power for towing.Ford really did it right with the independant 4 wheel suspension and the over all comfort of the vehicle. I love driving it.
Pros: The size first . . . . The whole package overall
Cons: 12.5 mpg around town....but it IS a 5.9L V8 ! ! !
Advice: Get running boards or nerf bars for the wife.....The new Mayor of Truckville is here ! ! ! I'm totally satisfied with mine, which I bought 3 weeks ago - 2002 1500 Quad Cab 1500 SLT, 2 Wheel drive with the 4 speed automatic, cloth seats, and the preferred package 26G, trailer tow group, 17' Chrome clad wheels. Now I need to find a camper. The ride is firm but comfortable, handling is predictable with just a bit of side hop over washboard surfaces with no load, wind noise with the windows closed is negligable, the climate control works well, unlike that in the Durango, there's plenty of visibility all around, and the trailer-tow mirrors have integral blind-spot mirrors as well.
Pros: Handling and ride.
Cons: No mute button on the stereo.
Advice: Do your homework and be prepared to be surprised. The ride is wonderful. The acceleration is not to be believed. Went from a 2000 Malibu LS to this car and will keep this car until it falls apart. I got the SE for the firmer ride, but liked the comfort of the GLE also. Love the braking. Recently saved me from a bad accident, someone turned in front of me and at the speed I was going, if I had been driving the Malibu I would have destroyed both cars. Have had it 3 months and fall more in love with this car everytime I get in it.
Cons: Small back seat
Advice: Buy the extend cab with the 4.3 liter engineThis is my 2nd S-10 4X4. I've owned a Ranger, B-4000, and a Tacoma. This is by far a better truck than any other I've owned. The powertrain of a 4.3, mated with either transmission has much more low-end torque than the others; I highly recommend the 3.73 rear differential. Going over the mountain passes in Colorado is a breeze with the S-10. Off-road, it has performed without a flaw. In my opinion, this is the best compact pickup made.
Pros: Good looks, and a smooth ride for an SUV.
Cons: The drivers seat is uncomfortabe for my 5'11' frame.
Advice: Order one with the features you want for a few hunderd over invoice.Impressive quickness and low end torque that gets you off the line around town. Although the 'on ramp' acceleration was good, the downshift and corresponding high rpm feels a bit uncomfortable. The suspension is very comfortable compared to our older Jeep Cherokee or the Xterra and was a big selling point for us. The steering is light and a pleasure to park in 'small car only' spaces. The bright red with the side-step bars is sporty and the overall looks are a 10. Fit and finish are good although I wish the doors closed without having to slam them shut. My biggest complaint is that I can't get comfortable in the seat. The bottom cushion feels too short like I'm sitting on a bench. My wife's 5'4' frame must be just right for it though because she doesn't feel my pain.
