The high quality and durability of today’s cars and trucks, combined with a challenging economy and a growing number of certified used-vehicle programs, have helped the pre-owned market in the United States reach impressive new heights. Last year alone, over 40 million used vehicles were sold, more than three times the number of new vehicles purchased by consumers. But despite all the changes, price remains the foremost factor in shopping for a pre-owned vehicle, capturing 31.6 percent of the vote in Autobytel’s recent auto poll; dependability and fuel economy also were important, at least to 26.3 and 23.6 percent of our respondents, respectively.
