BMW’s Active Blind Spot Detection system aids drivers when they change lanes by warning them of vehicles in their blind spots, helping to reduce the chance of having an accident. The system uses radar sensors to monitor the space around the car. When the system detects a vehicle currently in a blind spot or a vehicle approaching rapidly from the rear it displays a warning on the appropriate side mirror. If the driver misses or ignores the warning and activates the turn signal to change lanes the system further warns the driver by flashing an LED and vibrating the steering wheel.
