BMW ATC or Adaptive Transmission Control is a system that lets the transmission learn and adapt to the driver's preferred style of driving. The system can adjust shift schedules and firmness, the result being fast firm shifts when driving aggressively, and slower more comfortable shifts when just cruising. Unlike a normal automatic transmission, the ATC system can also detect if you are in a corner or going up or down a hill and prevent sudden gearshifts that could result in a loss of control.
