KLD Energy Technologies, a company based in Austin, Texas, is working on a system that they think of as energy for the next generation. The company’s oneDRIVE propulsion system might change the way electric vehicles are designed and built, so KLD Energy Technologies invited journalists out to Santa Monica to check out the latest in electric vehicle technology. Autobytel got a good look at the new oneDRIVE system and a better understanding of how oneDRIVE is different from other electric vehicle drivetrains. Designing an electric vehicle is complicated process because the components usually have to be sourced from different manufacturers. The battery comes from one supplier, the motor comes from another, and the engineers have to ensure it all works. KLD’s oneDRIVE simplifies the process because it is an entire system designed to work together. Christian Okonsky, the founder and CEO of KLD Energy Technologies, and Ray Caamano, the Chief Science Officer, told Autobytel they were motivated to make a more sustainable, more efficient energy system, and explained exactly what goes into the oneDRIVE system. It’s a package with three parts: a battery, an electric motor, and a custom made power controller, completely integrated to work together seamlessly. At its introduction, oneDRIVE is the least expensive, smallest, and lightest electric vehicle system available.
