Subaru has announced agreements with Sirius XM Connected Vehicle Services and AT&T to provide enhancements to its STARLINK in-vehicle connectivity system and improve personal safety and security services to vehicle occupants via 4G LTE wireless connectivity.

STARLINK is Subaru’s in-vehicle platform that provides hands-free connectivity, entertainment, and safety systems to vehicle occupants. The current system allows users to connect their Android and iOS devices to the infotainment system via Bluetooth and use the STARLINK app to access content such as Aha, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Stitcher Radio, calendar, food, news, weather, and other applications in the car. The system also features an available GPS navigation system with one-shot voice destination activation and a 7” in-dash capacitive touch screen.

With STARLINK’s soon to come AT&T 4G LTE capability the system will be also able to provide features by Sirius XM Connected Vehicle Services, including stolen vehicle recovery, automatic collision notification, remote vehicle services such as door lock and unlock via a smartphone and monthly vehicle health reports.

Sirius XM Connected Vehicle Services already provides connected vehicle services to Acura, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Lexus, Nissan, and Toyota. Their suite of safety, security, and convenience services includes automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery assistance, enhanced roadside assistance, and turn-by-turn navigation. The AT&T network has the nation’s strongest LTE signal, and enables fast access to assistance and GPS location services when necessary for accidents, emergencies, and stolen vehicle recovery, making them the ideal cellular provider for the STARLINK system.

STARLINK is currently available in the Subaru Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and XV Crosstrek, and the updated system with Sirius XM Connected Vehicle Services will be available in select 2016 model year Subaru vehicles.
