The 2010 Mercury Mariner is a compact sport-utility vehicle that aims for the premium crowd. Capable of handling five passengers or a total of 66 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded forward, the Mercury Mariner competes well against other SUVs in its class when it comes to practicality. The Mariner is also a comfortable vehicle right out of the box, thanks to the inclusion of power windows and door locks, air conditioning, a CD player, tinted windows and satellite radio that are all offered free of charge. Stepping up to the Premier trim adds in heated leather seats with power adjustments for the driver, the SYNC vehicle communications and multimedia interface and rear parking sensors. Many of these items can be installed as options on the base Mariner, with additional available equipment including a moonroof, dual automatic climate controls, a navigation system (including digital music storage capability) and the Auto Park system which can automatically parallel park the SUV.
The 2010 Mercury Mariner starts out with a 171 horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. Also capable of generating 171 lb-ft of torque, the smaller motor's fuel economy comes in at 20 miles per gallon around town and 28 miles per gallon during highway cruising. A V-6 edition of the Mariner is also available, and it ups the ante to 240 horsepower and 223 lb-ft of torque while lowering fuel mileage to 18 miles per gallon city and 26 miles per gallon highway. A six-speed automatic transmission is included with either engine choice and the SUV can also be equipped with all-wheel drive.
