The 2010 Dodge Nitro is a compact crossover vehicle that aims to service the needs of young families or individuals interested in an automobile that provides better utility than a standard compact hatchback. In addition to seating five passengers, the Dodge Nitro offers a 32 cubic foot 'trunk' behind the rear bench that can be expanded to swallow as much as 65 cubic feet of cargo, if required. The Dodge Nitro comes with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, a CD player and satellite radio as standard equipment, to go along with features such as keyless entry and heated mirrors. Options include cruise control and a sunroof on lower trim levels, as well as a navigation system with a hard drive for storing digital music files on high level trims.
The 2010 Dodge Nitro is available with a selection of V-6 power plants. The first is a 3.7-liter unit that puts out 210 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque, sent to either the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission (depending upon whether optional four-wheel drive is selected). Fuel mileage for this version of the crossover shows as 16 miles per gallon in city driving and 22 miles per gallon on the highway. A more robust, 260 horsepower 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine can also be ordered. Good for 265 lb-ft of torque, fuel economy for the larger motor is rated at 16 miles per gallon around town and 21 miles per gallon on the highway. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission available with the 4.0-liter mill, and four-wheel drive remains an option.
