Honda Certified Used Cars Program

Honda Certified Used Cars are those vehicles which have passed through the company's comprehensive inspection and qualification process with flying colors. These previously-owned cars, crossovers and trucks are guaranteed by Honda as providing a higher degree of reliability and quality than any other used Honda vehicles on the market.

Honda uses specific selection criteria when determining which vehicles qualify for participation in the Honda Certified Used Car program. Specifically, a vehicle must not have turned more than 80,000 miles on its odometer, nor can it be older than six years. These two important considerations eliminate many vehicles which are just not capable of meeting the high standard imposed by the Certified Used Car guidelines.

Each Honda that is being considered for the Certified Used Car program must also undergo a CARFAX vehicle history report. This report searches through DMV records in order to find instances of title or odometer fraud, any evidence of a serious accident or reports of fire or theft damage – all of which instantly remove a vehicle from the list of Certified Used Car candidates. If a vehicle has ever been reported stolen or if it has in the past been declared salvage by an insurance company then it too will proceed no further along Honda’s Certified Used Car path.

Once a previously-owned Honda has passed through the selection process, it is then subjected to a detailed 150-point inspection that is performed by Honda personnel who are specifically trained to spot even the smallest issue. Technicians go through the entire automobile with a fine-tooth comb, testing all major and minor vehicle systems to ensure that they are performing at full capacity and repairing or replacing any components which do not measure up using only Genuine Honda parts. The condition of the vehicle’s paint, body panels and interior is also evaluated, and any cleaning or touch-up work that is required is expertly performed.

After inspection, any scheduled maintenance that the Certified Used Car might be due for is performed, bringing the vehicle completely up to date. All automobiles graduating from the Honda Certified Used Car program also come with a three-month free subscription to XM satellite radio.

Honda’s detailed inspection and vehicle selection allows it to provide each Honda Certified Used Car with the kind of warranty coverage that is not offered on a typical previously-owned automobile. Honda extends the original powertrain warranty on each program participant to seven-years / 100,000 miles from the date the vehicle was first put into service. A comprehensive limited warranty on other vehicle components is also provided. For those cars which are still within their original new car warranty period, that coverage is extended to four-years / 48,000 miles. If the new car warranty has expired, then a new one-year / 12,000 mile limited warranty is put into place.
