Ford Certified Pre-Owned Program

The Ford Certified Pre-Owned program is designed to provide used car buyers with the highest quality previously owned automobiles available. Each of the vehicles that are selected to participate in the Ford CPO program must meet specific criteria and go through a detailed inspection to qualify for CPO status.

In order to make it through the first stage of the Ford Certified Pre-Owned selection process, a vehicle must be no older than six model years. Furthermore, automobiles showing more than 80,000 miles on the odometer are disqualified from participating in the Ford CPO program.

After meeting these two criteria, each CPO applicant is subjected to a detailed vehicle history report. Ford personnel search for any indications that an automobile has been involved in a serious accident, a flood or a fire. Any of these disqualify the car or truck from CPO status. Other issues that remove an automobile from CPO consideration are a history of theft, title problems (such as a salvage or branded title) or indications that the odometer has been tampered with.

The next stage for a Ford CPO vehicle is to undergo a detailed 169-point inspection. This inspection is performed by trained Ford technicians who scour the automobile, searching for parts or systems which may not be up to spec. All aspects of the car are tested and validated as being in perfect working order, including mechanical components such as the engine, suspension and the driveline, interior and exterior parts (including fit, finish and functionality) and of course any accessories or features specific to that vehicle. If any defects or issues are found, they are immediately repaired, and what emerges at the end of the inspection process is a car or truck that is in as good a condition as it was the day it first rolled off the assembly line.

Ford also makes sure that each automobile graduating from the CPO inspection is outfitted with new windshield wiper blades, a full tank of gas, fresh oil, a new oil filter and a free three-month subscription to Sirius satellite radio.

Ford is so confident in its vehicle selection and inspection process that it provides each and every CPO vehicle with a three-month / 3,000 mile comprehensive warranty that offers bumper-to-bumper protection for more than 500 automobile components. In addition, a six-year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty is included free of charge with all Ford CPO automobiles – a warranty which is completely transferable with the vehicle should it be sold to a third party after the initial Certified Pre-Owned purchase. During that same six-year / 100,000 mile period, Ford also provides free roadside assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This service is designed to take care of any unforeseen issues that could crop up out on the road, such as a flat tire or a dead battery. Ford’s roadside assistance program will also help you gain access to your car if you accidentally lock yourself out, and provide you with towing services and fuel delivery. The trip interruption component of the Ford CPO roadside assistance also provides reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by owners as a result of vehicle breakdown, such as food, lodging or even rental car costs.
