The Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicle program (also known as the GM Certified Used Vehicle program) was put together in order to provide Chevrolet dealerships with a steady supply of used cars and trucks that meet high standards of quality and reliability. These vehicles offer warranty coverage and peace of mind that is similar to a brand new Chevrolet automobile.

Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicles are chosen from a very specific pool of previous-owned automobiles. Age and mileage restrictions limit program participation to only those cars, trucks and crossovers from model year 2005 and newer which show less than 75,000 miles of use.

In order to help validate a candidate’s mileage as being accurate, each vehicle entering into the Certified Used program undergoes a CARFAX vehicle history search. By accessing insurance and DMV records, CARFAX can generate a report which details any title issues (including salvage or accident claim information), records of flood, fire or theft or any irregularities in reported mileage. If the vehicle’s CARFAX report reveals previously undisclosed issues with the automobile, it is excluded from Certified Used Vehicle consideration.

Every automobile chosen to be part of the Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicle program must offer all of its original equipment, be in excellent mechanical shape and not display any blemishes on the paint, the trim or the interior. In order to make sure that each Certified Used Vehicle meets these strict criteria, Chevrolet technicians put them through a 117-point inspection process that examines every single aspect of an automobile’s functionality and aesthetics. The chassis, engine, transmission, suspension and auxiliary systems are all validated as being in perfect working condition, as are every one of the vehicle’s features both inside and out. If any repairs or reconditioning must be done, then only GM parts are used as replacements. Finally, an extensive road test ensures that no aspect of the vehicle has escaped attention during the inspection and repair process.

Once an automobile has graduated from the Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicle program, it qualifies for two warranties from General Motors. The first is a 12-month / 12,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that is designed to cover almost all of the same items that would be protected by a brand new vehicle warranty. The second is a five-year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that offers coverage for the vehicle’s engine, transmission and driveline.

Also coming hand-in-hand with the Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicle powertrain warranty is a free roadside assistance program that is valid for the same period of time and mileage. GM will help Certified Used owners in emergency situations such as running out of fuel, having a tire go flat or needing a tow. This service can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Chevrolet also provides free courtesy transportation, if needed, when a vehicle is undergoing repairs. Roadside assistance is transferable to the next owner of the vehicle, if still within the initial coverage period.

One final warranty provided through the Chevrolet Certified Used Vehicle program takes the form of a three-day / 150 mile guarantee that allows buyers to return their vehicle and exchange it for either a new or Certified Used automobile – no questions asked – should they not be happy with their purchase.
