Changes for the 2014 Buick Verano:
Buick ups the technology ante for the 2014 Verano by adding Siri Eyes Free voice control and text messaging capability to its standard IntelliLink system. The Convenience Group adds a slew of safety features, such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, along with heated front seats and a universal garage door opener. Finally, a new Smokey Gray paint color debuts.
The 2014 Buick Verano is equipped with 18-inch aluminum wheels and fog lights, and includes an IntelliLink radio with a 7-inch touchscreen display, Siri Eyes Free technology, text messaging capability, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, satellite radio, Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio, a USB port, an iPod connection, and an auxiliary audio input jack. Additionally, every Verano is equipped with full power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control, a reversing camera, and more.
Stepping up to the Convenience Group provides a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and parking assist sensors. New for 2014, a Forward Collision Alert system and a Lane Departure Warning system are included with this upgrade, along with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert technologies.
Obviously, the Leather Group adds leather seats. Additional extras include an enhanced audio system, keyless engine start and entry, and a heated steering wheel. Getting the Premium Group means you’ll enjoy a powerful turbocharged engine, dual exhaust outlets, and a rear spoiler.
Engines and Transmissions:
The 2014 Verano’s standard engine is a 180-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission that powers the car’s front wheels. Equipping the Verano with the Premium Group means that a 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is installed under the hood. The turbo engine can be paired with a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
The EPA estimates that Veranos with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine will return 25 mpg in combined driving, while the turbocharged engine gets 24 mpg in combined driving regardless of transmission choice.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the 2014 Verano a 5-star overall crash-test rating, but as this summary is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not formally rated the 2014 Verano. Last year, the Verano was named a “Top Safety Pick,” though it had not been assessed in the tough new small overlap frontal impact test.
The Buick Verano suffers no shortage of technology. Its standard IntelliLink system includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, satellite radio, Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio, Siri Eyes Free voice commands, and hands-free text messaging capability. Plus, you can connect via USB port, iPod cable, or auxiliary audio input jack. Navigation and a premium sound system are optional.
Safety features include a reversing camera and OnStar services with Automatic Crash Notification. Most models also include a Forward Collision Warning system, a Lane Departure Warning system, a Side Blind Zone Alert system, and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert system.
