The 2014 Buick Regal GS is the new poster child for Buick’s latest tie-in with the NCAA Division I basketball tournament, and it really is the ideal choice. After all, the theme of this year's effort is "Surprising Performances Everywhere," and that includes inside Buick's recently redesigned sport sedan. Not only does the GS feature a high-powered, turbocharged engine that makes 259 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, but it also offers a six-speed manual transmission, an upgraded version of Buick's Interactive Drive Control System, athletically oriented all-wheel-drive technology from Haldex, a Hi-Per Strut front suspension and more. Another unexpected benefit? Even with that kind of sporting nature, the 2014 Buick Regal GS can reach 20 mpg city/31 mpg highway/24 mpg combined (in its front-wheel-drive configuration).

The bottom line here, from Buick marketing director Sandra Moore, is that the Regal GS is "sure to surprise many—just like eventful moments of March Madness.”

And that brings us to the Tri-shield brand's promotional efforts for the tournament, like its sponsorship of the "Inside March Madness presented by Buick" post-game program that will be broadcast on the TBS and TruTV cable networks. The show will provide an in-depth recap of the basketball action, highlighted by the most "Surprising Performance" of the day and, no doubt, plenty of screen-time for the 2014 Buick Regal GS.

Buick also has a treat planned for folks who travel to Texas for the tournament's "Final Four" championship round. The games are being held April 5 and 7, at AT&T Stadium (formerly known as Cowboys Stadium), and Buick will have a big-time presence outside the arena at the Bracket Town exhibition. In fact, the entire Buick portfolio will be on hand, as will a variety of Buick basketball challenges for hard-core hoopsters.

On the other hand, ye olde spotlight will, as mentioned, shine brightest on the Regal roster, which includes the standard 2014 Buick Regal along with the performance-focused GS model. Backed by a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, with outputs of 182 hp and 172 lb.-ft. of torque, the standard Regal offers its own take on midsize, driver-friendly luxury with an opening price of $29,690.
