After Enclave, It’s an Encore for Buick
Building on the success of the Buick Enclave large crossover, the Tri Shield brand will next introduce an all-new, five-passenger CUV called the Buick Encore at the 2012 North American Auto Show (NAIAS), set to open to the public on Jan. 14, 2012, in Detroit.
While no details can be released at this time, Clay Dean, GM’s executive director for Advanced Global Design, did confirm it follows the new Buick design recipe of being “the prettiest vehicle in its segment, the quietest vehicle in its segment, and the vehicle with the most luxurious interior in its segment.”
Buick plans to take the wraps off the 2013 Encore on Jan. 10, 2012, during the NAIAS media preview. However, to build anticipation before then, the brand will run a photographic countdown on its Facebook page; online fans can just navigate to www.facebook.com/buick and click on the new “Encore” tab, which will debut this week. There, Buick will post a covered picture of the Encore, then a different follow-up image each week showing a little bit more of the vehicle. The last shot will be posted the same morning that the Encore premieres in Detroit.
As for its big brother, it turns out that the Enclave is on track for a record sales year, with deliveries up by 8.3 percent through the end of November. That’s a fairly impressive performance for a vehicle that’s nearing the end of its life cycle in its current generation, and represents nearly 53,000 sales so far in 2011. Further, according to Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick Marketing, 48 percent of Enclave buyers are coming from rival automakers, as are 44 percent of all Regal purchasers.
“Buick is outselling Audi, Acura, Infiniti and Lincoln,” said Disalle. “And 41 percent of the brand’s customers are new to GM.”
