Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: BMW quality and drivability.
Cons: Cargo room.
Advice: Get the pre-owned certified car. Wonderful warranty.I have owned this certified used X-5 3.0 since October, 2002. As a practical SAV that handles like a 5 series sedan it simply excels in all regards. The ride and point and shoot handling are wonderful. Front seats are firm and supportive for long trips and rear cargo room, though skimpy in comparison to other makes, is ample for me and my family. Acceleration is brisk and the brakes are BMW awesome. Our X-5 is equipped with a trailer hitch which is essential in transporting our bikes and kayaks. Yes, we use this car as a mule, which is the best nag in the stable. Reliability for 85,000 miles has been excellent and the the certified 100,000 mile warranty has fixed any minor problems we've had. I've had at least one BMW in my garage since 1969 and this is by far my favorite.
Pros: HK audio system with two subs.
Cons: Windshield washer resovoir is gigantic 7.1L and I have to make frequent trips to parts department for more fluid.
Advice: Do what I did and buy the sports package, it makes the X-5 look sharper and more finished. The most solid SAV/SUV I have ever owned and I can't wait to purchase another X-5 in two years. The X-5 just performs without much effort; my only complaint is that people are constantly trying to drive to close, just to see what it is.
Advice: Get this car ..if money is not an issue, go with the 4.6What a great car ....worth the extra money. If you are looking for an SUV, then you are better of with a Tahoe, The X5 stands for performance and luxuary ...once you test driv e this one, you will never go back.
Cons: Fuel economy
Advice: NoneDrives and handles like the BMW 3 Series
Pros: handling and power
Cons: no cd in dash with nav.
Advice: go for it.It handles as good as you can get at this height and weight! it is a suv but more on the sport side then the off road.
Pros: Speed and Stability Control System
Cons: Rear headrests a bit too high, could make parking a little difficult
Advice: 3.0i model is great, not a lot of difference from the 4.4iFun to drive! A 'no thinking' required vehicle, it does all the thinking for you! Maintenance checks are done automatically, tells you when it may be slippery outside, tilt mirror aids in parking, and don't forget the great acceleration speed and the super brake system! Also, it doesn't tilt when you turn corners like other SUVs because it has an advanced Stability Control system.
Pros: Interior look, feel and comfort
Cons: Quirky problems that need dealer to fix
Advice: get the 3.0. FAST enough. the 4.4 isn't worth $10k.Unbelievable ride! I am a Lexus SUV convert. Didn't think it could get any better. Well, I was wrong! This is like driving a sports car in an SUV body. Yes, I've had a few issues with minor 'defects' (NEVER had that with my Lexus's), but in the end, its a worthwhile tradeoff! The other wierd thing that I never thought could be fixed in any car that somehow BMW nailed, the sunroof on the X-5 is SILENT when fully open at any speed. Most sunroofs are noise makers that need to be closed to carry on a conversation. How do they do it???
