If you don’t think this is one hot piece of mechanical you-know-what, it’s time to get your eyes and head examined. In addition to a terrific look, the new 2015 M4 Convertible has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine generating 425 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. Something tells us nobody will miss the previous V-8.

Making peak torque between 1,850 rpm and 5,500 rpm, and peak horsepower from 5,500 rpm to 7,300 rpm, the M4 Convertible ought to utterly scream all the way to its 7,600 rpm redline. BMW says it’ll hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds when equipped with the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The M4 Convertible with the manual gearbox isn’t quite as quick.

The refreshed 2015 BMW X3 is now offered with a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel 4-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower. Before you discount it on that basis, keep in mind that it also makes 280 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750 rpm and 2,750 rpm, giving it plenty of off-the-line oomph.

All that torque down low ensures that the X3 xDrive 28d can get to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. That’s not fast, of course, but you shouldn’t have trouble setting the pace in traffic. Neither BMW nor the EPA is offering fuel economy estimates, but this same engine delivers 35 mpg in combined driving when installed in the 3 Series wagon.
