Motorsports has always been deeply entwined in the DNA of BMW, but 20 years ago, the company backed out of the DTM racing series in their home country of Germany. Now, after that two decade hiatus BMW returned with the M3, and dominated the series winning the Drivers’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles in a total sweep. To celebrate this tremendous success BMW is celebrating with a special edition BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition. The car is modeled after Bruno Spengler’s racing car - Bruno is the man who took home that Drivers’ Title for BMW – and comes exclusively in Frozen Black metallic paint. Carbon fiber flaps and gurney, dark chrome trim pieces and menacing matte black wheels help complete the look. To add one last dash of visual flair, the BMW M stripe runs down the length of the CRFP roof and trunk lid, while M decals adorn the front wheel arches, and DTM Championship 2012 decals in the rear quarter windows.

The interior receives special treatment as well with carbon fiber interior trim, an Alcantara® steering wheel and “M Power” embroidery across the handbrake. In another tribute Spengler, the door sill strips are designed to replicate his helmet and his signature is across the dashboard trim. The serial number of the limited edition car will also be seen inscribed on the dash. The black Novillo leather trim has also been extended through the cabin and features Palladium Silver contrast stitching.

There will only be 54 offered around the world, so availability will be slim. BMW has yet to divulge how many are headed to each country and has only released pricing for Germany at €99,000. That price is just shy of 132,000 USD at current rates. The current M3 Frozen Edition carries a sticker of $76,000 so we expect actual US pricing to be closer to $80,000. That price may be a 20-grand premium over the base M3, but it comes loaded with plenty of kit. Buyers are treated to a Competition Package, M Drive, M DCT Drivelogic transmission and the M Driver’s Package.

To keep things civil inside this performance oriented machine, buyers also receive the Professional navigation system, heated seats and Park Distance Control as compliments of BMW. If the extra equipment is not enough to make you sign the dotted line, BMW is throwing in a once in a lifetime extra. All 54 new owners will be given the chance to attend the BMW M Fascination Nordschleife driver training course with Bruno Spengler himself. This most desired course of the BMW Driving Experience program allows drivers the chance to experience the true performance of BMW around the legendary Nürburgring. The Nordschleife track has been used for testing and chassis tuning by BMW for years.

Manufacturing begins in February 2013 for any party interested in owning this piece of Bavaria history.
