About the 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe:
We know, BMW’s ever-expanding palette of model designations is getting mighty confusing, and the new 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe makes it a little harder to understand. We’re here to help.
First, you need to know that the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible have been renamed as the 4 Series Coupe and Convertible. They have slight styling and equipment differences compared to the 3 Series upon which they remain based.
Next, you need to understand that the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is actually a 5-door hatchback. It is not, however, the same thing as a 3 Series Gran Turismo, which is also a 5-door hatchback. You see, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is sleeker, with a smaller and more intimate rear seat, and less cargo space.
Now that we’ve got all that straightened out, let’s take a closer look at the 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.
BMW offers the 4 Series Gran Coupe as a 428i model and as a more powerful and slightly better equipped 435i model, each available with an optional xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Buy a 4 Series Gran Coupe and you’re going to have lots of options, starting with a range of selections for paint, interior color, and cabin materials. Then, there are at least 10 different trim and equipment packages, as well as a number of individual upgrades.
Engines and Transmissions:
The BMW 428i Gran Coupe features a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 240 horsepower. The 435i Gran Coupe gets a turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine good for 300 horsepower. Each includes an 8-speed automatic transmission, and BMW’s xDrive AWD system is optional. BMW also supplies free scheduled maintenance for the first four years or 50,000 miles of ownership.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Depending on the model and whether or not you select xDrive, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe returns between 24 mpg and 27 mpg in combined driving.
As this summary is written, neither the NHTSA nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Every 4 Series Gran Coupe features automatic stop/start engine technology, along with Driving Dynamics Control settings including Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming capability is also standard, along with BMW Assist eCall services including an Emergency Request SOS button and Automatic Collision Notification.
Highlights from the options list include a navigation system with BMW Online and BMW Apps technology, adaptive LED headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, a heads-up display, and a premium surround sound audio system. Active cruise control and parking assistant systems are also available, as well as multiple cameras delivering information about the car’s immediate surroundings.
BMW also provides the 4 Series Gran Coupe with numerous safety upgrades including a reversing camera, parking sensors, a blind-spot information system, and a lane departure warning system. Models with the adaptive cruise control system also have a forward collision warning system.
