New Cars: 2008 50 Cent Pontiac G8 Preview – Cue the bass… Yo this G8 is one sweet pimped out ride fo’ shure ma nizzy… WAIT! Stop the bass line. Ok, that’s enough of that. For some reason GM feels they need that to sell you on the G8, that doesn’t mean I need it to tell you about it. The Pontiac G8 goes on sale early in early 2008 and is GMs first application of its global rear wheel drive platform. 50 Cent and Unique Autosports got their hands on one and customized it to 50s specs.
Page 2What’s Under the Hood
The 361hp 6.0L V8 that will come standard in the G8 wasn’t pushing the envelope enough for the rapper, so an LSX 427 block was fitted with many goodies from the GM performance parts bin that are used in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s 7.0L LS7 engine. Parts included a forged steel crankshaft, lightweight titanium connecting rods, racing-derived aluminum cylinder heads and a complete LS7 intake/throttle body/fuel injection system. The end result was a dyno tested engine that produced over 500hp.

It still looks like a G8, but has custom red pain with a stripe in a shape of the Pontiac dart and custom bling in the form of 50 Cent badges fastened to the sheet metal. Of course, no self respecting rapper would be caught dead in anything without at least 22-inch wheels and the chromed 22-inch deep dish NC Forged show exactly how 50 rolls. Blacked out taillights complete the package.

Being in the music industry, the sound system was probably the most important order of business for 50 Cent and JBL provides 800 watts of thump for the rapper. Black leather seats with red accents sport the 50 Cent/Unique Autosports logo as do the custom floor mats. One thing is for sure, he’ll never forget his name.

“The most interesting aspect of the project is what we didn’t do to the exterior,” said Will Castro. “We didn’t add a body kit, spoilers or lower the car. The G8 has the right stance and appearance, so we only accented the original form with details that made it unique to 50 Cent.” No body modifications and engine upgrades that can all be ordered from GM sounds like GM is listening to their customers, and their customers want performance.

It didn’t take a rapper to tell us that the G8 is going to be something special when it hits dealer’s lots next year. The G8 is a good looking automobile, but no body modifications? We’re thinking GM is just pulling the punches a bit in anticipation of a GXP version that will most likely follow down the line—look for body mods there. 50s G8 is nice for 50, but if we were to buy one, we’d rather see it with our name on it, not his. How about it Pontiac, personalized badging for everyone?
