In case you weren't there, a roundup of this year's New York International Auto Show
Introduction
Welcome to NYC
The New York Auto Show tends to have a luxury focus to it, and this year didn't disappoint with a trio of new Land Rovers. There were also a couple offerings for urban dwellers that don't have time to find a parking spot for an SUV, including a surprising collaboration between GM and Segway. Finally Mercedes-Benz offered up yet another reason to go diesel and the new Nissan 370Z finally dropped its top. Like the city around it, this year's New York Auto Show contained something for everyone. Look for the

2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The performance oriented beast in the Land Rover lineup gets subtle exterior enhancements such as a new two-bar grille, LED head lamps with halo-esque light rings, a more aggressive and aerodynamic stance, and a refined interior. It also is a recipient of two new engine choices, a 5.0 liter V8 supercharged engine with 510 horsepower and a 5.0 liter V8 naturally aspirated engine with 375 horsepower.
In their words:
It's clear that the Range Rover Sport remains the only choice as the quintessential SUV sports tourer.

Page 3Acura ZDX

Continuing the new Acura design language (quite attractively we might add), the ZDX offers the BMW X6 a little competition in the crossover-coupe category (yes, two makes it a category, one makes it an oddity). The general shape and stance of the vehicle is close to what you can expect will go on sale as a production model in the fall.
In their words:
The emotional coupe styling coupled with a luxurious and dramatic interior and surprising versatility, allows the ZDX to define its own segment and attract an entirely new customer.

Page 42010 Land Rover Range Rover

Sure, this brand new Range Rover doesn't look that different than the one it is set to replace, but why mess with iconic design? Look closely and you'll notice a new head lamp assembly, revised grille, and new LED side indicators. There are two new engine choices, a 5.0 liter V8 supercharged engine with 510 horsepower and the same engine naturally aspirated engine with 375 horsepower.
In their words:
The Range Rover remains the consummate luxury suv. Its combination of unrivalled all-terrain performance with the ultimate in comfort and refinement remains a clear industry benchmark.

Page 5Mercedes-Benz E250 Bluetec

Mercedes used its new 2010 E-Class to show off a prototype 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. The 50-state legal power plant utilizes Mercedes' Blutec technology which "cleans" the exhaust stream and reduces NOx emissions. Mercedes estimates the E250 Bluetec could achieve a fuel economy of 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. Finally, the 2.2 liter four-cylinder cranks out 369 lb-ft of torque, providing plenty of acceleration. Expect to see this in the not-to-distant future.
In their words:
E250 Bluetec combines environmental awareness, driving fun and comfort.

Page 62010 Land Rover LR4

With room for seven passengers, if there was ever a go-anywhere family hauler the Land Rover LR4 is just that. Equipped with a new 5.0 liter V8 engine with 375 horsepower, the new LR4 receives an upgraded chassis system and a new super-smooth 6-speed transmission. A freshened exterior design also includes a new grill, and revised head lamps and tail lamps.
In their words:
It can carry huge loads in its spacious interior, climb mountains, cruise across continents, haul trailers or transport up to seven family and friends in comfort. I can't think of a more versatile vehicle anywhere.

Page 7Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTec gets a respectable 18/24 mpg, but it only works if you want to go diesel. For those looking to stick to gasoline, Mercedes offers up a hybrid version of its ML that gets a very respectable 21/24 mpg rating. The ML450 can actually travel up to 1.8 miles and 34 mph on battery power alone. All of this translates to up to 60 percent lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions when compared to a traditional eight-cylinder SUV with permanent all-wheel drive.
In their words:
Classic M-Class benefits remain intact - economy of space, high levels of active and passive safety, driving comfort and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.

Page 82010 BMW X6 M

For those of that asked "Why?" when the BMW X6 first came out, they are probably now asking "Why?!" in the face of the BMW X6 M. Others just look at the highly-tuned version of the X6 with its 555 horsepower, quad exhaust, and massive brakes and say, "Oh yeah." You are either in one camp or the other, and even if you aren't down with the X6 M, chances are BMW has something else in its lineup to satisfy you (like the X5 M that also debuted with the X6 M).
In their words:
The BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M set new standards of acceleration, lateral grip, steering response, balance, and stopping power among high-performance activity vehicles.

2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

The AMG-tuned E-Classes have always been a favorite of ours. Few on the street would realize this understated luxury car is a 518 horsepower pavement demon capable of 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. The sports suspension is comfortable in both the rigorous cornering of the racetrack and more calmer day-to-day driving.
In their words:
This dynamic sports sedan impresses with outstanding performance, thrilling handling characteristics and advanced technology transferred from its sibling, the SL63 AMG high-performance Roadster.

Page 10Mitsubishi Outlander GT prototype

While Mitsubishi calls this a prototype, it's likely what the next-generation Outlander will look like. The prototype has an advanced all-wheel drive system, 19-inch OZ Racing wheels, a polished aluminum roof, Brembo brakes and a media system that includes Bluetooth 2.0, a 40-GB hard drive, and a USB-iPod connection. Likely everything but the aluminum roof and Brembo brakes will remain on the production version. Styling is clearly derived from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
In their words:
The Outlander GT Prototype is loaded with new technology, greater performance, higher fuel efficiency and an aggressive new design.

Page 112010 Nissan 370Z Roadster

When the 2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe was introduced last November, the first question everyone asked was, "When do we see the convertible?" Well here it is in all its drop-top glory. One of the cool features standard on the Roadster is an automatic latching power top that requires no manual intervention. Nissan also spent a lot of time minimizing wind noise and incorporated a glass wind blocker between the headrests to reduce wind buffeting.
In their words:
The seductively styled Z Roadster offers everything the hardtop Z Coupe does -- and more. As in more classic open-air sports car driving excitement.

Page 12GM/Segway Project P.U.M.A.

P.U.M.A. stands for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project. GM teamed up with the company that brought you those scooters that were supposed to revolutionize transportation in an attempt to, um, really revolutionize transportation. With a top speed of 35 mph, and a 35-mile all-electric range, the real exciting potential is realized when these vehicles are networked with each other wirelessly to find your friends, locate parking spaces, and to avoid accidents.
In their words:
We are excited to be working together to demonstrate a dramatically different approach to urban mobility.

Page 132010 Subaru Outback

Based on its new Subaru Legacy, the new Subaru Outback is an evolution of what Subaru calls the "World's First Sport Utility Wagon." Despite being shorter than the previous Outback, the new Outback is actually eight-percent roomier on the inside, and has a Northeast-winter friendly ground-clearance that has increased to 8.7 inches. Engines range from a four-cylinder, 170 horsepower engine to top-of-the-line six-cylinder, 256 horsepower engine.
In their words:
The 2010 Outback interior is not only more spacious, but takes another step up in refinement from an already-praised design in the previous model.

Page 14Scion iQ

The Scion iQ is based off the Toyota iQ micro-car already for sale in Europe. Consider Scion's version to be a SMART car dressed up for an underground rave. With 18-inch rims crammed into its wheel wells, it's high on style, but it doesn't lack in safety either. It features 9 airbags, including a back window airbag that provides protection to the head of the rear seat occupant.
In their words:
Scion's iQ concept is the intelligent answer to this need for highly emotional and efficient urban transportation.

Page 152010 Subaru Legacy

With the 2010 Legacy, Subaru takes aim at the family sedan world. With a larger and more upscale interior combined with Subaru's excellent all-wheel drive, the Legacy just might have a chance of ending up on to the shopping lists of Accord and Camry buyers. Engines range from a four-cylinder, 170 horsepower engine to top-of-the-line six-cylinder, 256 horsepower engine.
In their words:
The all-new Legacy sedan draws together superb driving performance and vital environmental considerations, while providing increased room and unparalleled comfort.

Page 162010 VW Golf/GTI

While the American appetite for small cars has never been overwhelming, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf is as good of a meal as one can fit on a small plate. At this year's show it was awarded the 2009 World Car of the Year, so you know Volkswagen is doing something right. Take your pick between, among other choices, the 2.0 TDI clean diesel engine, which promises excellent fuel economy, and the uber-sporty GTI version (pictured) with 200 horsepower, a track tuned suspension, and great looks.
In their words:
The Golf and GTI continue to highlight Volkswagen's commitment to offer affordable German engineered cars that are fun-to-drive.

Page 17Hyundai Nuvis

This sweeping design is an insight into what we can expect from Hyundai's future crossovers. The Nuvis is based on Hyundai's BlueHybrid drivetrain, which we can expect to see next year on the next-generation Sonata. Other cool concept touches are the lack of internal switch gear (it's all touch-activated) and the 100-percent post-consumer recycled polyester material used throughout the Nuvis interior.
In their words:
Hyundai designers considered the interplay of natural, fluid elements with more rigid surfaces and structures to create the illusion of constant motion.

Page 182010 GMC Terrain

High on value, capacity, and features, the Terrain is a 5-passenger crossover that gets 30 mpg on the highway. It includes unique utility features such as a MultiFlex sliding rear seat that can increase passenger comfort or provide additional cargo space. GMC will offer their new 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine with an estimated 264 horsepower and a new 2.4L direct injected inline-four engine estimated at 182 horsepower. A rear-backup camera is standard.
In their words:
The new Terrain brings GMC's history of innovation and engineering excellence into a smaller, fuel-efficient package for today's buyer.

Page 192011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep claims to have invented the premium-SUV segment with the Grand Cherokee. A now crowed field of competition from Audi to Infiniti have made Jeep's flagship vehicle somewhat forgettable. Not so with its reintroduction, offering muscular styling, a chassis stiffer than a BMW X5, and a very attractive interior loaded with features. For those that actually use SUVs for what they're best at, the Grand Cherokee offers a towing capacity of 7,400 lbs. and an optional air suspension with adjustable ride height.
In their words:
Our all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee hits the sweet spot of premium on-road performance and legendary class-leading Jeep capability.

Page 202010 Kia Forte Koup

With the Soul, Forte, and now the Forte Koup, Kia is creating on a consistent basis cars with personality. In addition to aggressive styling, the Forte Koup offers the choice between a 2.0-liter inline-4 producing 156 horsepower and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 173 horsepower. The smaller engine offers an impressive 25/34 mpg, and even the larger engine has expected mileage of 22/32 mpg.
In their words:
We believe our new design evolution coupled with standard Kia value and safety features will continue to attract customers to the Kia brand.
