The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder went through a form of major evolution by saying farewell to its body-on -frame construction and heading towards a crossover. Now the second part of the Pathfinder’s evolution is beginning with the introduction of the new 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid which Nissan claims that no compromises are made to this model. The 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid debuts Nissan’s new hybrid powertain which features a 2.5L supercharged four-cylinder and a 15kw electric motor that is mated to a compact Lithium-ion battery pack. Total power output stands at 250 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque that goes through Nissan’s next-gen Xtronic CVT to the intelligent four-wheel drive system. Also part of the hybrid powertrain is a the Nissan Intelligent Dual Clutch System which features two clutches and a motor that is mounted between the engine and CVT.
The system manages the power from the gas engine and electric motor to have both running as efficient as they can. The system also acts as a generator, collecting energy from the CVT. Fuel economy for the Pathfinder Hybrid are very impressive, with Nissan estimating 25 City/27 Highway/26 Combined. Combined with the Pathfinder Hybrid’s 19.5 gallon gas tank, Nissan says it can travel up to 526 miles. Nissan also says the Pathfinder Hybrid can tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped.
Inside, the Pathfinder Hybrid retains many of the features seen on the normal Pathfinder including three-row seating, a large screen providing Nissan infotainment system and available naviagtion, around view monitor system, and number of other features. New for the hybrid model is the Advanced Drive-Assist Display which provide drivers information about the hybrid powertrain. The Pathfinder Hybrid will be available in the SV, SL and Platinum trim levels and be price about $3,000 more than the Pathfinder. It will go on sale later this summer.
