Top 25 Must-See Vehicles @ LA Auto Show
The 2013 LA Auto Show is sure to be a hit with automotive enthusiasts of all types as my head practically exploded when I walked in to the main exhibit hall. There is something to see every 5 feet including new releases, concept cars, race cars, and lots of classics. Luckily I got a sweet Press Day Pass and was able to take a sneak peek at what is cool and interesting at the show. The following pages comprise my Top 25 Must-See Vehicles, in no particular order.
For some reason the new SRT Viper was tucked way back in a corner of the Dodge exhibit. Glad to have stumbled upon it as this Viper sports a special edition Anodized Carbon mattte paint job that looked sinister.
Old School 1970 Dodge Challenger
Before there was the Challenger SRT8 that we all know and love there was the first Generation Dodge Challenger. Dodge had a large piece of real estate at the LA Auto Show packed with all kinds of goodies including this fantastic 1970 Challenger.
Infiniti Q30 Concept
Year after year Infiniti displays some of the most forward looking concept cars in the entire automotive world and the Q30 crossover concept seen here certainly does not disappoint.
2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo Edition
The 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo Edition recently completed the Nürburgring with some ridiculously quick times, making it the fastest volume production car (whatever that means). All I know is Godzilla has a sweet paint job, big aerodynamics, and lots of carbon fiber.
Steve McQueen's 1956 Jaguar XKSS
I am usually not a big fan of classic British sports cars but this 1956 Jaguar XKSS was undeniably beautiful. This car was on display next to a new F-Type coupe and it sure is a crowd pleaser.
Audi R8 V-10
The cornerstone of the Audi exhibit was this R8 that was painted Sepang Blue Matte. We have all seen the R8 since it has been around for years now but there is something different about this particular car and the crowd of people I had to shoo away to get this shot is evidence of that.
Toyota TS030 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Car
Toyota had a handful of unique race cars ranging from full out dragsters to the Le Mans race car seen here. This vehicle is ground breaking because it's a hybrid powered race car.
Porsche 918 Spyder
Porsche always goes all out and they have an entire Hall devoted to cars past, present, and future. There were a couple of new debuts including the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the Macan compact SUV. The real excitement, however, was for the 918 Spyder which is seen here in the flesh.
Need for Speed Ford Mustang
There are some pretty slick Mustangs on display in the Ford area but this buff GT 500 takes the cake. This Mustang will be featured in the upcoming Need for Speed movie and it sports extensive body modifications and huge 22-inch rims.
Cadillac El Miraj Concept
The Cadillac El Miraj is tall, dark, and handsome. The lines on this concept car are so fluid and mesmerizing that you are transported to a world where the automobile meets a future you can only dream about.
Corvette Stingray Convertible
The C7 Corvette has been the talk of the automotive landscape for the past few weeks as the car has been receiving many awards. Personally, the Stingray really does not get my engine going but this Lime Rock Green Metallic Convertible is something you should see in person.
Mercedes Vision Gran Turismo Concept
This was probably the biggest stunner at the LA Auto Show. The big news and hype surrounded the new releases for 2014 but Mercedes created a show stopper with this Vision GT Concept that was built for the Gran Turismo video game franchise.
Yes all the car models are something you "must see" but so is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Why? Well the styling is maybe the most drastic departure from the norm in quite some time. You need to see the Jeep Cherokee in person and decide if you love it or hate it!
Who in their right mind would paint a $400k Lamborghini Aventador pink? You should certainly find out the responsible party and give them a tongue lashing! In any case the assortment of modified luxury and exotic cars is well worth the price of admission.
2015 Subaru WRX
The Subaru WRX Concept was shown for the first time earlier this year at the New York Auto Show. Scoobie fans everywhere jumped for joy. It's with a heavy heart that I tell you that the concept car did not make it into production. Instead, we get a more watered-down version that is the 2015 WRX.
Saleen Automotive revealed a triple threat at the Concourse Hall that includes a 302 Mustang, 570 Challenger, and 620 Camaro. Each car is designated SA-30 which commemorates 30 years of racing heritage.
Honda FCEV Concept Car
This is another one of those concepts that totally wowed the audience. Honda's FCEV is a fuel-cell vehicle that takes styling and aerodynamics to a whole new level.
Mopar Challenger R/T Shaker
The Dodge Challenger R/T shaker is a limited edition muscle car that comes equipped with a ton of Mopar goodies and most importantly a Shaker Hood so you can show off all that power.
Jaguar F-Type Coupe
How do you one-up the F-Type convertible? You add a hardtop model, that's how! The F-Type is certainly one of thesexiest cars out there and this new coupe model is a real looker.
2015 Cadillac Escalade
Cadillac's new Escalade is big and bad. The 2015 model is the perfect successor to the prevous generation and I have no doubt that this will be a home run with rappers, sports stars, and Hollywood people.
Consider the Maserati Ghibli the kid brother of the Quattroporte sedan. The Ghibli is cheaper and still retains the great looks that all Maserati automobiles possess.
Chevy Camaro Z28
The Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a special Track Package that harkens back to the first generation vehicle. What makes the car seen here so cool is the flat white matte paint job that must been seen to be appreciated.
BMW X4 Concept
The BMW X4 Concept looks like a Mini-Me version of the X6 with the fast-back rear end and aggressive look. BMW really brought out the big guns this year with the i8 and 4-Series on display but this luxury crossover still really caught my eye.
Europe has enjoyed a sedan version of the Audi A3 for years while the U.S. has only had the stale hatchback version. This all changes with the introduction of the 2015 Audi A3 and S3. The Audi S3 packs a potent turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and should be a hit.
Galpin Ford GTR1
What happens when you take one of the most powerful and rare Ford sports car and give it to a team that has decades of tuning experience? The answer is the Galpin Ford GTR1 which is essentially a heavily modified version of the Ford GT, boosted to over 1000 horsepower. Heck Yeah!
