For a number of years in the U.S. market, the dominant force in cargo/passenger vans was the Ford E-Series. In Europe, the Ford Transit was the iconic cargo/passenger van. Now with the E-Series driving off into the sunset, the Transit is making the Atlantic crossing to take the place of the E-Series. Shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the 2014 Transit will offer buyers a range of passenger and cargo vans of varying wheelbases and roof heights. There will also be a variety of powertrains available for the Transit. The base engine is a 3.7L V6, followed by the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, and finally the 3.5L inline-five PowerStroke diesel engine. Autobytel’s Editor-In-Chief, Michelle Naranjo, gives a brief overview of the Transit.
