The four-rings brand hasn't quite gone all-in with its 2015 Audi A3, but it has confirmed at least one more variant is on the way. Slated to debut at next month's Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, the 2015 Audi S3 Cabriolet is next in line to join the Audi A3 Sedan, Audi A3 Cabriolet, Audi A3 Sportback e-tron and Audi S3—along with TDI versions of the first trio—in the European marketplace. And while Audi has yet to confirm the S3 Cabriolet for this country, it has confirmed that it's seeking some massive volume gains in this country, and a premium hi-po compact convertible couldn't hurt. The real question is whether Audi would dare to unleash an RS 3 family to take performance to ye olde next level.
For now, folks can keep their fingers crossed for the 2015 Audi S3 Cabriolet, which is essentially the S3 convertible—not that that's a bad thing. In both cases, drivers will enjoy a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Audi's TSFI turbocharging and fuel-injection technologies, with that unit making 300 hp and just more than 280 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is managed by a six-speed S tronic transmission and hits the ground via Audi's signature quattro all-wheel-drive system, while launch control optimizes that motivation for the ability to run from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds.
Acceleration is a bit off the pace set by the U.S.-bound Audi S3 sedan, but the difference-maker here is the additional weight required by the Cabrio model's convertible top, and that's not a tough trade-off to make for the inimitable thrill of open-air driving. Dropping the top takes fewer than 20 seconds, too, as does closing it, while drivers can choose from three different colors for the premium fabric roof. Other exterior accents include S3 badging and aluminum/aluminum-look accents, complemented by dual dual tailpipes, aggressively sized aero and air-intake enhancements, and LED taillights.
The black cockpit of the S3 Cabriolet was designed to comfortably fit four adults, enhanced by an "easy-entry" feature for simple access to the rear seats. An elegant black shade is used as the primary interior color, then set off by brushed aluminum and stainless-steel accents, contrast stitching and S-exclusive instrumentation designs.
A full range of premium creature comforts and sophisticated infotainment/connectivity/safety technologies also will be offered for the 2015 Audi S3 Cabriolet, with the entry point starting at approximately $66,668.
