2008 Geneva Auto Show: 2009 Volvo XC60
Volvo enters the luxury cute-ute market
What It Is
2009 Volvo XC60 – 2008 Geneva Auto Show: Volvo previewed its XC60 Concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. At the time, we said that the concept - which was virtually production ready - represented the fact that "the best designs - inside and out - coming out of car land right now may very well be Swedish." If the final production version of the XC60 to be debuted at Geneva looks even close to the concept, we will feel no compulsion to eat our words. Why it Matters
Likely to be built off the Land Rover LR2 chassis - which, after all, is mostly Volvo-sourced - the XC60 represents Volvo's effort to expand its lineup, even in the face of possible sale by corporate parent Ford. With this and new cars like the cool new C30 hatchback, Volvo is trying to hard to shake its stodgy image with one that's much more youthful. More cars like this will help considerably.
