BMW's August was very good to its two brands. Sales for the month stand at 30,546 units, an increase of 35.4 percent when compared to last August. Total sales for the year stand at 233,326 units, an increase of 12 percent.
The big news for BMW in August sales dealt with their passenger car line-up. Aside from the Z4, all of BMW's passengers cars experienced an increase in sales. The 3-Series was the breadwinner with 10,357 units sold, an increase of 66.9 percent. The 5 and 7-Series saw the largest increases in sales for the month. The 5-Series saw a 158.2 percent increase and the 7-Series saw a 172.6 percent increase. BMW's SAV lineup saw declines for the month with the X5 posting a 30.5 percent drop, the X3 posting a 24.1 percent drop, and the X6 seeing a 20.2 percent drop.
Over at MINI, the brand had its best August ever. Sales totaled 6,023 units, an increase of 5.3 percent. The Cooper Hardtop was the best seller for the month (2,848 units) and the big gainer (increase 22.1 percent) for the month.
