An upgrade is available in the form of a turbocharged 1.4-liter, four-cylinder mill that maintains 138 horses but boosts torque to 148 lb-ft. Fuel mileage for the turbo engine eclipses that of the base unit, showing as 29-mpg city and 40-mpg highway when matched with a six-speed manual transmission (a six-speed automatic is also available).

The 2013 Jeep Compass (which can also be had with a less rugged, optional four-wheel drive system) provides a pair of four-cylinder engines as its available drivetrains. The 2.0-liter mill delivers 158 horsepower and 141 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.4-liter unit ups those figures to 172 horses and 165 lb-ft of twist.
