Now, everyone knows that Shaquille O’Neal was a very successful basketball player in his day but he also stands as one of the true giants in the sport for another very different reason—his overall gargantuan body size which one would assume limits his personal automotive choices to either a Chevy Suburban or a Greyhound Bus.
In fact, Shaq probably never had to exert all that much effort into dominating basketball given the fact that he is 7 feet and 1 inch tall. What on Earth did his mama feed him growing up? No matter, Shaq has lived a charmed life despite his freakishly tall frame and you would be surprised that he doesn’t even let his size keep him from driving the cars he wants to drive.
In an episode of “Cribs” on MTV he showed off his personal garage which actually contained some exotic Ferraris he had custom altered just so that he could fit in the driver’s seat. Now that’s a committed driving enthusiast who won’t let anything keep him off the road. Perhaps, then, this is why Buick recently tapped the always likable Shaq for an advertisement hawking the impressive 2012 LaCrosse luxury sedan with the e-Assist system. So why would Shaq, a man who could afford pretty much any car, want a 2012 Buick LaCrosse?
Well, from the message put forth in this ad it would appear Shaq is one of many who would like a fuel efficient, environmentally sensitive car but feels most hybrids look as dumpy and frumpy as that one Olsen twin who always appears hell bent on dressing in a manner that will most make her appear like a homeless hobo. In fact, in the ad Shaq even says “I’ve got shoes that are bigger than most hybrids. And more stylish too.” Somehow we don’t doubt that one bit.
Although the 2012 Buick LaCrosse is also available with a 3.6 liter V6, those who have to pay for their own gas may prefer the e-Assist system which is a mild hybrid mated to a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder Ecotec engine. This all helps this still very luxurious and incredibly roomy sedan return impressive EPA fuel economy estimates of 25 city/36 highway.
Now we could easily see how Shaq would feel comfortable inside the LaCrosse given the low slung dash, airy greenhouse and soothing waterfall style center console design. We think that Buick picked just the right person to bring attention to the LaCrosse’s style, efficiency and most importantly—its interior space and elegance. Although we do admit when Shaq stands next to the LaCrosse in the ad he made it look like the Verano which is the smallest car Buick sells. But then, pretty much everything looks tiny next to Shaquille O’Neal.
