Charles Krome

Detroit, MI
Charles Krome

Growing up in the Detroit area with a last name like "Krome," I suppose it was inevitable I ended up in the auto industry—but I actually didn't have a very Detroit-oriented upbringing. My dad favored English roadsters like the Lotus Elan and Jensen-Healey—let me mention here that I grew up in the late 1960s/early 1970s—and my earliest automotive memories involve standing with my brother behind the front seats of the Lotus as we whipped down the expressway just north of 100 mph. And my first car wasn't a local product, it was a Volvo 142.

Of course, all that being said, I have put in my time with the home team since entering the real world, including about 12 years on the inside with GM and Ford, and I also served as an editor/writer for Audi service publications and the BASF Automotive Refinish Group, among others, before joining the Autobytel team.
