Audi Launches Online Petition for Audi TT RS in U.S.
Just last month, Audi AG confirmed that it would be bringing the souped-up Audi RS5 to the United States, and now the company is gauging interest for a smaller RS variant, the TT RS. In a surprising move, Audi is leaving the fate of this sporty little coupe to fans on its Facebook page who are being asked to vote whether or not the car should come to the U.S. Not only is the possibility of a U.S.-spec TT RS exciting, but it is also nice to see that manufacturers are starting to use social networking sites to get direct feedback from fans and potential consumers.
On its Facebook fan page, Audi asked, 'Do you want to see the Audi TT RS on American roads? We want to hear from you. The fate of this performance coupe rests in your hands. Sign the TT RS Petition and we might just bring it over.' After just an hour of being posted, almost 200 people responded with both positive and, in true Internet form, negative comments. To vote on the fate of the Audi TT RS, just visit audi.us/TTRSfbpetition (the Facebook application must be authorized before you can vote). Audi's official Facebook page is www.facebook.com/audi.
Currently only available in Europe, the Audi TT RS one-ups the performance of the current Audi TTS with a direct-injected and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that produces 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission available on the TT RS is a quick-shifting six-speed manual gearbox sending power to all four wheels through Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. Weighing in at just 3,196 pounds (3,328 for the roadster), the TT RS is able to accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph; as an option, the top speed can be raised to 174 mph.
The current TT RS is produced in either coupe or roadster configuration.
