As the ultimate version of Audi’s iconic Grand Tourer, the Audi TT RS is nothing short of phenomenal. However, if you stop to examine it and realize it’s basically the ultimate iteration of the Volkswagen Golf—upon which the car is based— well, it’s still nothing short of phenomenal.

Regardless of how you measure it, it’s tough to beat the combination of 360 horsepower, all-wheel drive and a 3,300-pound curb weight. Light, powerful, and delivering outstanding traction, the Audi TT RS positively shines in nearly performance situation it encounters. The most powerful version of the handsome Audi TT model ever offered is, simply put, a remarkable driver’s car.

To get there, the TT RS engineering team specified a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. They then tweaked the engine management system to get it to produce 360 horsepower and 343 ft-lbs of torque. While European versions of the Audi TT RS get the company’s outstanding direct shift gearbox and the launch control system it comes with, North American versions of the TT RS are only offered with a six-speed manual transmission. Still, even with this handicap, the car boasts a zero to 60 of 4.3 seconds.

In other words, the Audi TT RS will outrun the Audi R8 4.2 to sixty miles per hour.

Available only in the coupe body, the Audi TT RS is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels and a sticky summer performance tire; the suspension system is adjustable, as is the throttle response, and the exhaust system. It’s an Audi, so you know luxury features also abound. You’ll find xenon headlights, smart windshield wipers, automatic climate control, power seats, and leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts.

Options include smart headlights, rear parking sensors, and of course  navigation. A freer flowing exhaust system is offered, in addition to two-tone interior packages, heated seats, and carbon fiber exterior mirror housings. By the way, the tail spoiler can be deleted at no cost.

If you decide to buy an Audi TT RS, yours will be one of but 1000 such cars in the United States. This is because the TT RS is a limited production model. Thus, where the price point of the Audi might lead you to consider one or more of the other gloriously exciting cars gracefully hovering around that price point, one thing the TT RS can offer over the others is exclusivity. Odds are, you will seldom see another Audi TT RS on the road.
