2012 Audi A4: Video Review and Road Test
The Audi A4 is an entry-level, four-door luxury sedan that makes the most of its compact dimensions in order to provide fans of German engineering with a comfortable, reasonably sporty, and definitely stylish ride. The Audi A4 offers one of the best-designed interiors in its class, and it also comes with safety features such as a full complement of airbags (including optional side airbags for rear occupants) as well as electronic stability and traction control.
The Audi A4 makes use of a single engine option, a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that can be relied on to produce 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is available with the sedan, as are an eight-speed automatic and a continuously-variable automatic gearbox (depending on the model that is ordered). Like all Audi vehicles offered in the United States, quattro all-wheel drive is also present and accounted for on the options sheet. Fuel mileage for the compact sedan shows as 22-mpg in stop and go driving and 30-mpg on the highway.
The Audi A4 is divided into Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. The A4 Premium (MSRP $32,500) offers leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Audi's MMI media and communications interface, automatic climate control, power seat adjustments for forward occupants, and a CD player. The Premium Plus trim (MSRP $36,800) adds 18-inch wheels, three zones of automatic climate control, S line trim that gives the sedan a sportier appearance, a trip computer, and heated seats. The top-of-the-line A4 Prestige (MSRP $42,000) provides adaptive HID headlights, an upgraded sound system, a navigation system with an improved MMI interface, a blind spot warning system, and keyless entry and ignition.
It's possible to further customize the Audi A4 by selecting from a number of different options packages The Convenience package installs Bluetooth and iPod connectivity on the base model, while the Style package offers HID headlights and LED running lights. The MMI Navigation Plus package upgrades the vehicle's nav system and includes a rear view camera and a hard drive for storing digital music files, while the Prestige trim's S line package dresses up the interior and exterior. Also available with the A4 Prestige is the Drive Select package that provides additional control over the vehicle's performance characteristics. The Sport package (Premium Plus and Prestige models) further enhances the A4's capabilities by stiffening the suspension system and installing aggressively bolstered seats.
