Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Just the right size, not to small, not to big.
Pros: Smooth ride and handling
Cons: AC controls.More than adequate power , but I expected better mpg, 19.7 average.
Pros: Performance - nice power/handling
Cons: Interior - overall poor finish/service
Advice: Make your own choicePerformance of the car is great. Nice acceleration, good handling. All those things that made me buy an Acura. The quality of the vehicle leaves something to be desired. Looks great at first pass, but drive it for a few miles and see and hear... Clunks from brakes, Squeeks and rattles from dash and console, Glove box rattles at every bump, Fit and finish of the interior very poor quality with sub standard material for a vehicle at this price point - compare quality to Lexus/BMW or Volvo - the differnce is obvious. One of the worst overall service experiences I have had with any product. Friendly up front, but unable to resolve any problems - very quick to throw up hands and say 'we can't fix, if you don't like go to arbitration' (and this is from the factory rep and customer service not dealership.
Pros: Acura's NAV, she gets me where I want to be
Cons: The running boards
Advice: Gas consumption is lower on averaged mixed use than posted.I went for Acura's extras in the MDX. A towing package in the 4500 lb.+ range. The package included an upgraded cooling system for my desert play and the towing of my sailboat is a stable breeze down the road. Nice ride.
Pros: NAV & Smooth Luxurious ride
Cons: Inadequate space to rest your left foot while driving & Have to use High Grade Gas
Advice: Very nice ride, but expensive to gasI really loved the handling of the vehicle and smooth quiet ride it delivers. I was not interested in the NAV until I got a demo and saw the awesome capability.
Pros: The large and powerful powertrain with the shift on the fly 4WD.
Cons: That the temperature controls were so difficult to set. I found myself baking during the day and freezing at night sometimes.
Advice: Just familiarize themselves with the controls; read their owner's manuals, and have a great time. The MDX had very good acceleration from the line although in the higher end gears it did have a tendency to lag behind. This however was only in the upper most gears at a high RPM. The constant power coming from the powerplant and it's unending torque do give the driver the feeling of being able to pull anything while at the same time being babied in a rich and luxurious velvety smooth feline coat. The handling was almost feline like, sure footed and sleek with the large front window giving the driver a great view of the road. The luscious leather gives a nice touch, although some of the controls could have been much easier to find and use while driving. Beside the radio, everything else was virtually out of my control due to traffic, which any normal driver would face. Once I got the hang of it though, it became much easier. I would suggest to any driver to familiarize themselves with this vehicle before venturing out into traffic. Once you do, the road will be at your fingertips.
Pros: car like feeling
Cons: road rumbling noice and Fuel consumption
Advice: Go for it-ve are high fuel consumption and tire rumbling noice
Pros: Nav and sound system
Cons: Lack of (left) foot rest space
Advice: Shop the BMW's - Lexus - ToyotasDrives like a luxury sedan, smooth acceleration, takes turns without the traditional suv tilting and rocking. Quiet engine and very low outside noise intrusion. All disk ABS brakes are truely ideal. Rear camara view when backing up is a great safety feature. Power seats for drive and front passenger allows complete comfort for any size person. Nav system is the best any vehicle has to offer. The Bose sound system, well, you may want to park this vehicle in your living room so you can enjoy amazing hi-fi after dinner. Similar SUV's in its class were also very good, you'll need to test drive them all and form your own preference, but for me, the Acura MDX was the one.
