    2002 Acura CL - Type S w/Nav System

    Pros: Looks, power

    Cons: Transmission is horrible

Advice: Buy a manual or you will be sorry.

I wouldn't call it a test drive, I own the vehicle. The biggest problem is the automatic transmission. No joking, it is horrible. I have had 3 failures, the first of which locked up the front wheels for a couple of seconds while driving on the freeway. Talk about an ignored safety hazard. Do a lot of research if you are thinking of buying this car. It won't take long to see the scope of the problem. One word comes to mind when describing this car, Lemon. Other than that, yeah great car. Too bad Acura had to mess it up with cheasy tranny.

    2002 Acura CL - Type S

Pros: Ability to set seat and mirrors for mulltiple drivers.

    Cons: Seat comfort.

Advice: Unless you do a lot of travel

On long trips car performed great. Gas mileage on trips was a little better than 30 MPG and around town about 20+ MPG. Manual shifting rarely used. There are some negatives, i.e. controls on steering wheel don't light, no light in console, door locks don't lock automatically, only 1 coat hook in back seat, no compass and thermometer difficult to see with sun glasses. This is our first Acura product. The dealer service is excellent. Salesman was great and we found him to be honest without any pressure. We had been talking to him for about 5 years before we bought this car. If we had it to do over we would make the same decision. NOTE: This is a model year 2003 but Autoweb's site will not allow me to place it up top.

    2002 Acura CL - Type S

    Pros: Engine and Manual Transmission

Cons: Clutch and a low and quick catch point. Takes getting used to.

Advice: Read Road and Track comparison with BMW 330.

Just a terrific car. Great drive train, wonderful manual 6-speed, confident handling, and a good sound system.

    2002 Acura CL - Type S

    Pros: V6 Power and Handling

Cons: Arm Rest Compartment has flaky cheap plastic catch latch

Advice: Perfect for anyone wanting mix of Performance, Luxury and Honda/Acura reliability

The 3.2L V6 churns out smooth, ample power (with a nice throaty growl from the exhaust) when pressed. The ride is very comfortable and yet sporty enough so that it corners very flat for a car its size. The front and rear stabilizers and beefy Michelin Pilot tires contribute in this regard. If you're a manual transmission control freak like me, the close-ratio 6 speed is the way to go. It's a little awkward to get to 5th and 6th gears unti l you get used to it (I kept shifting down instead of up) but the responsiveness is tops. The interior is very well appointed. I like the heated seats and autodimming rearview mirror (toys are good!). My only complain here is with the arm rest/compartment. It lifts up to expose a storage compartment, which is great, except when it pops open on it's own and bumps you in the elbow while driving. Evidently, there is a known problem that keeps the thing from staying latched down. Acura seems to think it's a temperature sensitivity issue but after driving it for a couple of hours with the AC on and cabin cooled down, I didn't notice it getting any better. If you're looking for a performance coupe with all the lux toys you can shake a stick at, this is a strong contender. All in all, a great car. It has game.

    2002 Acura CL - Type S

    Pros: The 260-hp engine

Cons: Lack of rear power sunshade, moisture sensitive windshield wipers, and a park distance control system

Advice: If you are looking for higher performance, next year's model will have a six-speed stick shift and potentially a 290-hp engine

The car is very quick without being crass like a muscle car. It has sharp lines which look very nice, but the rear is incomplete without the spoiler. At $895, it's expensive but much-needed. The controls are all convenient, except for the moonroof controls. Also, I dislike the two dummy-switches in the car considering that there are no options to fill the slots. One of them should have been used for a control to turn the fog lights on and off; is there any reason to not have this control? All in all, it's a good car on its own laurels and a great car when compared to others at its price-point.

    2002 Acura CL - Type S

    Pros: Sound of the engine

Cons: Wheel spokes stick out and are easily scratched

    Advice: Drive everything else first!

While it may not be the tops in its class in any one category, this car does everything so well that the entire package adds up to more than the sum of it's parts. Performance is excellent yet it's a very comfortable car. The gas mileage is good for a 260hp car and there's room for four adults.
